1. The annual Chinese New Year event is finally arrived on this weekend (1/28). There is no school in the morning. Rehearsal for the program starts from 1:00 P.M. till 3:00 P.M. in auditorium. The dinner menu is included in the attachment file for your reference. We will use English throughout the day & night as the official language. We now have 33 tables for the dinner party. And more than 40 gift items for raffle drawing with value (> $1,600.00) ranging from $10.00 to $150.00, including one cash prize of $100.00 and another of $60.00. Raffle tickets will be sold at dinner party. Raffle drawing prize list, program sheet, and rehearsal schedule are included in the attachments. Thanks for all the participants join this New Year celebration event.

新年晚會終於在本週六絳臨。上午不上課，一時至三時則為最後彩排時間。晚餐飲品目錄請參閱附錄，共有三十三桌人參加。禮品超過四十組，價值從十元到一百五十元不等。抽獎獎卷晚餐時開賣，謝謝所有買晚餐票的參加者來共襄盛舉。

Hi UCS Members:

I just receive a notice this afternoon from Westfield BOE saying that UCS will be closed tomorrow due to severe weather condition (snow). Please do not come to school tomorrow and we will discuss the 'make-up' date in the near future. For class teachers, please try to call your students (especially for those who do not have internet access at home) and let them know this information. (One such example is Edward McGreevy who is either a 5th or 6th grader -- he has no internet access at home.) If you want to go out and drive tomorrow, please be very careful about the snow condition. I will see you on 1/28/12 afternoon (we do not have class in the morning due to Chinese new year event on that date) at UCS.

1. The annual Chinese New Year event is next week on 1/28/12. We are selling the ‘dinner party ticket’ now. Please go to Mr. Ming Liu for buying the tickets and we have plenty seats available. The dinner menu is included in the attachment file for your reference. And we will use English throughout the night as the official language. We encourage our CSL class families to attend. It is a party not only for our traditional class families but also for all the CSL class families. It is also a good chance to learn many Chinese traditions around the Chinese New year time. If you want to donate some presents for ‘raffle drawing’ please contact Ms. Sandy Hu/Yuchin Li. We do need your generous to donate the gifts so that we can have enough pool for raffle drawing. 2. There is a karaoke program during the dinner party in Chinese New year celebration for all our members to enjoy. All members are welcome to sing your favorite song (at no charge). If interested please contact Karin Liu this week (and tell her your song’s name in advance).

The annual CACA Chinese New Year Gala event is coming soon. It is scheduled on 2/11/12 (Saturday) night at The Palace (hotel) at Somerset Park in Somerset. The ticket price is $75.00 per adult and $25.00 per children (under 12). Dinner menu is attached this time (very good one). Baby sitter is included onsite and an ‘international ballroom dance competition’ will be held during the party, too (limit to first 15 couples registered). For this event, CACA has a ‘profit sharing plan’ for all 5 schools and sub-organizations in that the ‘profit’ (if any) will be shared among all schools (and sub-organizations) that sell dinner tickets and receive ads (from vendor) proportionally. Last year from the same event we (UCS) earned more than $500.00 (due to I sold 23 tickets for this event and got 4 outside ads from vendors). The more people attend this event the more money (profit sharing) we will get from CACA (as a ‘bonus’). So please join this event if at all possible. If interested, please come to principal for the tickets.

雲門舞集

享譽國際的台灣雲門舞集甫於去年十月初獲邀於紐約演出《屋漏痕》(Water Stains on the Wall) 大獲好評。今年二月初，林懷民將帶領雲門２首度巡迴美國，首站將於二月八日至十二日在紐約伊斯劇院(The Joyce Theater)演出。

為讓美國的華裔學生對台灣現代舞及雲門舞集有一初步了解，本次雲門2的兩位編舞家布拉瑞揚和鄭宗龍特於1/21~2/4期間先行來到紐約，為我們中文學校的學生作一說明及示範，如有興趣邀請這兩位編舞家至貴校演講，煩請您與紐約經文處台北文化中心楊婷媜秘書連繫（Tel: (212) 697-6188 ext. 3；email: tcyang@tpecc.org）。

中華函授學校2012學年招生簡章壹、宗旨：

經由函授及網路修業方式推廣華文教育，招收具華文說寫能力之海外僑胞學習中華文化、生活新知、專業技能及華語教學知能。

貳、科別、課程及報名資格：

本學年設9學科84種課程，各科課程請參閱「課程專區」，報名資格如下：

華文教師科：招收高中或同等學力有志從事僑教工作，或現正服務於海外華僑學校或華文班者。
文史藝術科、農工科、商業及管理科、家庭與兒童科、餐飲科、電腦資訊科：招收高中或同等學力者。
華語文應用科：「華語奇遇A1」、「華語 (第1-4冊) 」招收小學或同等學力者，其餘各課程招收高中或同等學力者。
中小學進修科：招收具華文基本說寫能力者。

為因應華語文教學漸朝第二語言發展之趨勢，達到分齡教學及分級學習之目標，中華民國僑務委員會近期全新編製完成「小豆豆學華語精選輯」（網址：http://media.huayuworld.org/lang/basic/ch_read/index.htm）。該教材係「快樂學華語」第一、二集之基礎延伸，特針對K1~K3程度之學童。

1. CACA 5-school Speech Contest was finally over and we only had Grace We won the 2nd place of group C this time. However, we did a great job as the host school. Let’s give all the contestants, the winner (Grace Wu) and all the volunteers a big applause.

Not only you will get a good ‘entertainment’ on that night but also UCS will benefit from the ticket sells (profit sharing, about 10% from all the sales of our tickets) and earn some money from this event. If you have extra stuffs (those mentioned above) on hand at home and are willing to donate them, you can bring those things to school on 11/19 at school cafeteria. They can provide you a receipt that you may use it for tax (deduction) purpose next year. We will collect all the materials between 10:00 and 11:00 A.M. and give to their representative at that time. We wish a lot of our parents can help out in this event. Please bring your own bags for your donation materials. Thank you very much.

1. UCS will host this year’s CACA 5-school Speech Contest on 12/10/11 at our auditorium。 (聯合今年將舉辦中美文拹五校演講比賽)。

2. UCS intramural speech contest first round was held last week on 10/29 and the winners list (top 5 places) is attached for your reference. The final round of intramural speech contest will consist of only those first ½ winning students (up to 10 people) in each group. In each group the first 3 winners will get a trophy and the first 2 winners will represent UCS to attend the CACA 5-school speech contest on 12/10 in our school auditorium.

3. To encourage more students to attend the final round of speech contest, we slightly adjust the maximum number of attendants in each group from 9 to 10. Also, we allow the lower half ranked students to be the possible back-ups (replacements) for those students in the upper half, should any of them can’t (or won’t) attend the final speech contest. This replacement will follow the ranks of the lower half students one by one, in sequential order, until the total number of students allowed in each group is reached.

4. The qualified students’ list for the final round is also attached but the ‘replacement list’ will be released next week. For those students who are qualified to attend the final round, please report to your teacher if you will attend the final round or not. We encourage you to report to your teacher this week (if you determine to attend or you know that you can’t attend) because next week there is no class due to NJ Teachers’ Conference Day. If you don’t report by next week (11/12) we will treat you as ‘forfeit’ and a replacement will be sought. 晉級決賽者請向該班級任老師報告，確認十一月十九日是否參加決賽。如下週六(十一月十二日) 之前未報告決定者視同棄權，缺額由後半段參賽者依名次高低依次遞補，直到該組滿額或無人可補時為止(亦即後半段者無人願意出來參加決賽) 。

8. We have one (anonymous) parent who is willing to donate $3.00 to each contestant (who actually gave a speech last week) of each group for the speech contest. We will give such a student (who actually attended the speech contest) a ‘special coupon’ (equivalent to 12 regular coupons) so that you can use it to do the redemption today. Thanks for that parent’s kindness to our students.

(iii) New ‘volunteer sheet’ will include two more items (‘Other’ and ‘Waiver’) to choose from. For those who selects ‘waiver’ must pay a one-time ‘waiver fee’ of $60.00 per year. (iv) All 3 deans will get pay of $200.00 per year. (v) Will have a surplus budget of $2754.14 this year. 1. ANJCS will host the Centennial Double Tenth flag raising event on 10/9/11 (Sunday) from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Birchwood Manor (111 North Jefferson Road, Whippany, NJ). (中華民國建國百年雙十國慶升旗典禮) UCS will serve the refreshments and cakes for the guests. If you like to attend this celebration and help out (as server), please let the principal know. Both adults and children are welcome. Might give certificate for 2 hours of community service to children who are in high school (9th grade and up). Please see the attachments for details. The [Logo Design Contest] event for the Double Tenth will have the results (winners) announced on the same date at that place, too. By the way, the servers will get lunch box (for adults) and pizza (for children) after the ceremony is over (the audience will not get anything for lunch).

2. On 10/10/11 (Monday, Columbus Day) there will be a Double Tenth parade in Chinatown area in New York City. 4. The chess class has cancelled due to lack of students enrolled (3 people) and the teacher is not willing to teach in such a small class. Please bring your money (cash or check) to pick up the moon cakes. By the way, UCS also ordered 20 boxes as the “Teacher’s Day gift” for our teachers to show our appreciation (and welcome) to the teachers.

This class is pending on 5 students of enrollment. Otherwise, if only 4 or less students registered, it will still be cancelled. In the meantime, since we can’t get a Chinese music teacher (for teaching erhu) this semester, the traditional Chinese music class will be cancelled. We need one more student to register the SAT Math class, this class on 9/10 will have 4 students enrolled (1 new + 3 old). Hello, everyone! There is only 11 days away from today to our first day of school on 9/10/2011, the official first day of UCS for the school year 2011-2012. Hope all of you have a wonderful and great summer time! Before the first day of school, I will prepare two issues of ‘pre-school’ newsletter (2012 issues -1 and 0) to address some issues and give you a heads up about some activities that are around the corner to be happened. This includes the following things: 4 activities/events, 2 announcements, and 2 advertisements. Here are the details for each item that I just mentioned.

I know there might be some potential students who want to take this cultural class, should there be one that is opened. Now it is time to register this cultural class if you really want to. We need at least 5 students registered in this class in order to open that class. Otherwise, if only 4 or less students registered, it will still be cancelled.

In the meantime, since we can’t get a Chinese music teacher (for teaching erhu) this semester, the traditional Chinese music class will be cancelled (it is a painful decision but we have to do that, no other choice). We need one more student to register the SAT Math class, so those students who are currently enrolled in the Chinese music class can probably transfer to the SAT Math class so that we can open that one. (We currently only have 3 students registered this class, but I will have my son [a 10th grader this year] also register this class on 9/10 so we will have 4 students now. Just one more student registers this class then we can open this useful class to the students.)

UCS will continue the registration on 5/21 for the last time (till 11:00 A.M.) for this semester. In the meantime, it is the last date for pre-registration for next year without paying the registration fee. Otherwise, you have to pay the registration fee if registration is beyond 5/21 (it is a mandatory fee but not an optional fee, it can only be waived during these two days, no exceptions). Please use this opportunity for your children and register on 5/21 (if you haven’t done so). Please also select the cultural class for your child, in order not to cancel some (cultural) classes due to lack of students enrolled.

本校贏得拔河及趣味競賽冠軍

Dear members:

It is my pleasure to announce to you that we (UCS) won the 2011 CACA Fun Day fun games and tug of war competition champion and also won $500.00 cash award because of this championship. It is totally beyond my imagination because I only wish to win $100.00 (5th place) for UCS but eventually we become the 1st place. Our members come to MJCS (the Fun Day place) more than I have expected. Thank you for all the players for the tug of war and fun games and also for those parents who come to the place as 'cheerleaders' for our players.

Some parents said to me if we could win the $500.00 award then we should celebrate it by buying the players a meal. I said O.K. (since I did not believe we could make it). Now since it is more than what I have expected, I think we should celebrate it. I would like to use $200 from the cash award ($500.00) to distribute to those players who won the tug of war and the 1st place of the fun games (I think it is 'water balloon tossing). However, I would not give you the 'cash' but instead, will allow those players to 'eat free' in our up-coming teachers and volunteers appreciation luncheon on 6/12/11 (Sunday). For adult players (two or three) that are already counted in our volunteer list you will not be counted free another time (and sorry it can't transfer to your kids) (since you are free anyway -- to save a little bit money for UCS). For those 'student' players (no matter you have graduated or not), you are free for this luncheon, no matter whether your parents are volunteers or not. In other words, if a player's parent (father or mother) is a volunteer then your family can have 3 people free for the appreciation luncheon.

Karin and Chang, Chong-Hsi, please help me to identify those 15 people who played the tug of war and 2 young boys who won the 1st place of 'water balloon tossing' game. I only remember some of them but do not remember (or even recognize) all of them. Thank you.

By the way, just let all the members know that we have gained almost $2000.00 income from various sources for the past two or three weeks. These include the following items:
1. Karin Wang's company 'match' of $500.00.
2. CACA new year gala 'profit sharing plan' -- $518.00 (due to the sales of gala tickets and the ads obtained from UCS) -- basically this is my personal contribution (for selling all the tickets and got 3 sponsorships of ads).
3. Tug of war & fun games cash award for 1st place -- another $500.00 (today).
4. United Way contribution of more than $230.00 from Merck (Ming Liu, Inhou Chu, James Wang, etc.).

6. Several hundreds of surplus from the ads of vendors for our 'yearly book' printing (exact amounts to be disclosed later) (we have more than $1000.00 of income from the ads but the expense is only several hundreds) -- I have contributed 60% to 70% of all the ads.

Finally, I appreciate all the parents who attend today's event, without your support, we can't win the tug of war and fun games competition. Another thing is, I feel very proud that 'most of you do read the UCS newsletter every week' and respond to my 'requests' (ask you to come and support us in the Fun Day competition). I feel my hard working (putting all the news together every week, and sometimes worked very late -- till 1:00, 2:00, or even 3:00 A.M. on each Friday (ie., after midnight of Thursday) morning) is worthy and have a return now. I hope every family can give me this kind of support next year. This will become my strongest motion to serve UCS for another year. Thanks everyone and next week we will celebrate together in the park for the annual BBQ (have more than 70 people sign-on now).

UCS Open House event and registration for next year

五月七日及十四日是本校今年的《開放日》及明年的預註冊日期，學校將有學生作業及文化成果展覽，將在大餐廳展出，詳情請參閱海報。在七日及＋四日註冊的人可免繳註冊費，過了此二日而未註冊者，則須繳納註冊費(此為強制性的收費而非選擇性的收費，過此二日而未註冊者，必須繳費沒有例外) 。明年Yo-yo課不再開了(因無老師之故) ，但新增三門新(或重新)開的課程供學生們選擇，包括(括號內為開課老師名稱): 釣魚技巧(王治行)、棋藝( 郭盛駿) 、SAT 數學(馮國儀、孫譪如) 。但必須5人以上註冊方可開班(否則取消) 。棋藝班老師只收7歲以上的學生，SAT數學則須7年級以上的學生，但11或12年級的聯合畢業的校友，也可以選修SAT數學。

UCS will have an Open House event on 5/7 and 5/14 in cafeteria area, which will present the students’ school works as well as culture class activities. In the meantime, it is the dates for pre-registration for next year for the students. The registration fee for next year will be waived if you registered during these two days. Otherwise, you have to pay the registration fee if registration is beyond these two days (it is a mandatory fee but not an optional fee, it can only be waived during these two days, no exceptions). Next year we will not offer the Yo-yo cultural class (due to no teacher to teach this one). However, we also offer 3 new (or re-open) cultural classes for students to select. They are (within parentheses is/are the teacher’s name(s)): Fishing skills (James Wang), Chess class (Shen-Chun Kuo), and SAT Math(Kung-I Feng & Airu Sun). Each class must have at least 5 students registered in order to be open. The chess class is only for students with age 7 and above, and the SAT math class requires grade 7 and above students, including 11th or 10th graders of UCS alumni.

中華民國僑務委員會「華文網路種子師資培訓計畫」迄今已培訓逾千名數位種子教師；另自2009年起全新試辦線上培訓課程，由於海外華語文教師不用請假返台，可在當地運用個人網路即能就地獲取新知，普獲好評，2011年將賡續開辦「線上課程基礎班」3班及「線上課程進階班」1班，每班35人，全年度預計培訓全球教師140人，期能以自主性的學習時間及豐富的授課內容，全面提升海外華語文師資之教學知能。

本校賣票聯絡人為沈君平，有與趣者請與他聯絡。園遊會的票每張五毛錢，事先購票有10%優待，亦即買20張(＋元)送2張。購票請洽吳江名或沈君平。今年的拔河比賽，前五名(只有5校)都有獎金，第一名500元，其後依名次遞減100元，直到第五名為100元。此項比賽須20位13歲或以上的小朋友及成人參加，希望本校能組得成一隊去比賽(至少可為學校募得100元)。

The CACA Fun Day will be held on 5/15/11 (Sunday) afternoon from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M. in New Brunswick Mid Jersey Chinese School (MJCS). There are lots of things to do, e.g., food vendors, carnival games, fun game competitions, and performances, etc. Every family is welcome to join this event.

The contact persons in UCS are Chunpyn Shen (for selling tickets and organize the competition teams, e.g., the tug of war team – need about 20 people) and James Wang (responsible for finding parents to sell foods for UCS). If you are interested in attending please contact them directly. Tickets are sold for $0.50 each (to play games and buy foods).

If you purchase in advance there is a 10% discount in that buying every 20 tickets (for $10.00) you will get 22 tickets (2 tickets are free). We will bring the tickets for sell this week. In addition, this year there is a tug of war for children age 13 and above. Each school can form one team and the competition is among all the teams from the 5 schools under CACA. The first place team can earn $500.00 for their school, and the rest will earn $100.00 less in decreasing order of their final ranks.
So the 5th place winner (or loser?) will have $100.00 for their school. I hope that we can form a team for this tug of war competition (which can earn us at least 100.00). For more information please consult with the ads of the attachment.

T-Shirt Design Competition Results

Ｔ恤設計比賽已于四月二日上午＋一時截止收件後由二位裁判憑出成績，結果如下: 第一名李元亨(Henry Lee), 第二名楊修維(Edward McGreevy), 第三名Jennifer Schug。恭喜他們獲獎。學校T恤將採用李元亨的設計圖，如附件所示。如需要訂購單者可由附件中自行打印表格。請事先繳錢，謝謝。

The T-shirt design competition ended after the collecting of the design on 4/2/11 at 11:00 A.M. Two judges have evaluated 5 contestants’ designs and selected three winners from there.

The results are: 1st place: Henry Lee, 2nd place: Edward McGreevy, 3rd place: Jennifer Schug. Congratulations to them. We will adopt the design from the first place winner as the blue print for the T-shirt, one can see the winning design in the attachment. We are still collecting orders for the T-shirt, if you don’t get one of the order form, you may print it out from the attachment of the newsletter. Please turn in the money when you hand in the order form, thanks.

為了在六月份的全新州中文學校運動會上，表現我們聯合的氣勢及團結的精神，經上週理事會討論之後，我們決定在校內辦一個Ｔ恤設計比賽。取前三名頒發獎盃及獎狀，並以得到第一名者的設計圖為藍本，製做本校的T恤，並在學校內販賣。初步決定每件T恤的價錢大約是＋美元的成本，我們就賣十美元一件，不論大小尺寸皆同樣價錢。為了平衡收支，在訂貨單上列了一額外捐款欄，希望能夠獲得你的〝小額捐款〞，一元二元不嫌少，五元＋元也不嫌多，不想捐也沒關係(不要覺得不好意思)，完全隨心所欲。Ｔ恤設計比賽一些注意事項及規定如下:

1. 即日起收件至四月二日中午＋二時截止，設計圖請交給Larraine Schug，並在背面註明姓名及年級資料。紙張大小以8.5’ x 11’ 標準紙張及相同大小的圖畫紙為限，請自行準備紙張及材料。

2. 凡四年級或＋歲(含) 以上(包括CSL班學生) 皆可參加，每人以一件參賽作品為限，不分年級及年齡(不是年紀大的人就設計的比較好)。

3. 設計的主題就是《聯合中文學校》，請以簡單的設計為主，文字圖案皆可。T恤本身會有顏色，設計圖案則為另外一色，故不要用到三種顏色以上以免吃虧。

4. 四月＋六日宣佈前三名得主，頒發獎盃及獎狀，其他參賽未得獎者發獎勵券二張。得到第一名者的設計圖無償為學校T恤藍本，學校可用它來印製T恤並賣給聯合的成員(無版權問題)，學校亦有權做適度的修改(設計圖)。

In order to show our UCS spirit in the ANJCS sports competition, the Board of Director meeting last week had a discussion and made a decision that we would have a ‘UCS T-Shirt Design Competition’ for our students. We will select 3winners and the first prize winner’s design will be used to create our ‘UCS T-Shirt’. The winners will be presented with trophies and certificates. The T-Shirts will be sold to our UCS members within school. Our initial estimate of the cost for the T-shirt is about $10.00 per piece. Hence we will sell the T-shirt at this price ($10.00) and regardless of the size. However, in order to balance our budget, we put a line for ‘optional donation’ in the order form for you to donate some small amount of money to UCS. No matter it is $1.00 or $2.00, we will not feel it is small money and if you donate $5.00 or even $10.00 we will not feel it is a big money. It will all depend on your own will and even you donate nothing don’t feel embarrassed, we understand and won’t laugh at you. Some of the things and rules for the T-shirt design competition are described as follows:

1. We will collect the design started from this Saturday (2/19) and the deadline for submitting your design is on 4/2/11 at 12:00 noon time. Please give your design to Ms. Larraine Schug and put your name and class on the back side of the paper. The paper must be either of standard size (8.5’ by 11’) white paper or same size color paper for drawing. Please prepare your own paper and drawing materials.

2. All 4th graders or of age 10 years old and above students (including CSL students) can attend this contest. There is only one (big) group that includes everybody who are in this range (by class and age), since not the older student will be a better designer.

3. The main theme of the design contest is ‘Union Chinese School’. Please use a ‘simple design’ with either words or pictures or both (but don’t be too complicated). The T-shirt will be printed on a color T-shirt with a single (different) color ink. Therefore, don’t use 3 or more colors in your design or your design work will not be a favorite one (for selection).

4. On 4/16/11 we will announce the 3 winners of the design contest. All 3 winners will get a trophy plus a certificate. The rest attendee will obtain 2 school coupons. The design work of the 1st place winner will be used as a ‘blue print’ for the school T-shirt without pay, and school will use it to print the T-shirts and sell them to our UCS members. There will be no ‘copy right’ issue – as the first place winner, you forfeit the right to UCS automatically. On the other hand, UCS has the right to modify the design work a little bit when appropriate

100年海外民俗文化種子教師培訓班

美加地區華語文教師與文化教師相當歡迎的海外民俗文化種子教師培訓班，100年全新課程已經完成規劃，即將開放網路報名。今年的培訓課程仍延續民俗藝術、民俗舞蹈、民俗體育、行政研習等四大主軸，分二梯次在美加地區辦理11個場次培訓，預定培訓600名民俗文化種子教師。

據僑務委員會承辦單位表示，民俗文化種子教師是培育海外在地傳統民俗文化推廣團隊的重要環節，僑委會希望能借重在地力量，持續為文化夏令營及華語文教學引進新的做法，推動各項傳統文化活動。因此從2009年起針對傳統民俗文化的教學與推廣，規劃民俗文化種子教師培訓班系列課程，在美國開辦9場培訓課程，培訓了536名學員，成效相當受肯定，2010年再增加加拿大2個場次，培訓人數增加到612人。

從學員背景資料來看，以中文學校及主流學校現職教師所佔比例最高，依據2010年追蹤問卷，透過文化種子教師受惠的學生超過4萬人，影響力不容小覷。

承辦單位表示，文化種子教師班僑委會提供免費培訓課程與教材，但學員需要自行負擔交通、食、宿，並繳交出席保證金。由於課程相當受歡迎，名額有限，不是每個報名學員都能順利參加，希望有意參與傳統民俗文化推廣的教師把握報名時間。僑務委員會首頁（http://www.ocac.gov.tw）的「最新消息」或「海外民俗文化種子教師培訓班」圖示都可以連結到報名網站。

有關本會『100年海外民俗文化種子教師培訓班』已開始報名，歡迎各校教師踴躍參與。

該培訓班採網路報名，可於本會首頁「最新消息」-「僑務委員會『100年海外民俗文化種子教師培訓班』開放網路報名」及下方「海外民俗文化種子教師培訓班」圖示均可點選連結報名網頁。開放報名時間第一梯次自即日起至2月25日止，第二梯次自4月1日起至4月24日止。

相關資訊如下:

1. 學員應於網路報名後一週內將出席保證金100美元（加拿大為100加幣）支票以掛號寄達中心（無中心地區送駐處僑務秘書），以完成報名程序。承辦單位於網路報名截止後，彙整報名資料送中心初審，經中心報會核定後，由承辦單位寄發通知。學員實際研習時數超過總時數90%，請於結訓時退還上開保證金支票，研習時數未達90%（遲到、早退均包含於缺席時數），或於開課前5日內臨時放棄報名資格者（不可抗力因素者除外），保證金請依規定繳庫。

2. 本案培訓對象為：（1）美加各地文化夏令營推薦之儲備教師優先錄取，（2）於美加地區中文學校或主流學校任教，具華語文及各種文化藝術教學經驗，於日後能投入擔任夏令營文化教學或華語文教學工作者。

家長大會

3/26 家長大會，選出了八位明年的理事，包含五位(今年2011) 新任的理事。本校組織章程的附錄，亦經表決通過
(41張選票中只有３張反對，38張贊成，贊成率92.7%)。本人在此謝謝家長們的踴躍出席投票，尤其謝謝孫藹如動人和具有影響力的演說，讓理事會多獲得三位成員。我這隻” 阿貓” 應該可以找到一位副校長而順利退位了。

Last Saturday (3/26) we had our general members meeting and elected 8 board members, including 5 new members. Our addendum of the by-law was also approved by the majority of the members (38/41 = 92.7% voted ‘approved’). I hereby sincerely thanks all the parents who attended this meeting, especially for Ms. Airu Sun whose charming and with significant impact speech let us obtained 3 extra members of the board. I think I can find a successor to be the vice principal (and hence principal for next year) within the new board members. Thanks.

This Saturday (March 26) we have general members meeting at 10:00 A.M. in cafeteria. Besides the board of trustees election, we also will vote for the approval of the addendum of our by-law. This addendum was discussed among the board members last week and was passed by the board members. 五勝獲得冠軍，為校爭光。(又是得獎率百分之百!) 恭喜他！

ANJCS hosted the Chinese Chess contest on March 27th, last Sunday. We had one student, Bryan Fang, represented UCS for this contest. He won all 5 games in a row and became the champion of the ‘lower section’ (4th grader or younger group).
This is another ‘100% winning rate’ again! Congratulations to him!

新州中文學校聯盟(ANJCS) 將於六月四日下午十二時至五時在博根中文學校舉行首屆的(全) 新州中文學校運動會，包含分組徑賽、拔河比賽、及趣味競賽等，還有各式小吃攤位(園遊會) ，本校將組隊參加(至少趣味競賽) ，希望各位家長能夠帶你的小孩一起來參加、捧場。更多運動會詳情日後會再慢慢公佈。

ANJCS will held its first ‘All Chinese School Sports Competition’ on 6/4/11 (Saturday) afternoon from 12:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Bergen County Chinese School. Competition items include, field competition, tug of war, and family fun competition, etc. Also, some food vendors will be there to sell foods and drinks. UCS will attend this event, at least for the ‘family fun competition’ item. Please bring your children with you to join this event and have a family fun on that day.

The weather is so cold recently and has a lot of snow. I remind all members of UCS, when you come to school on Saturday morning, please wear enough clothes and overcoats with you to protect yourself against the cold weather. When you drive, don’t drive too fast in order to prevent slippery. Safety is the number one concern in winter driving, don’t trade speed with safety or you will lose more than you can afford. Thank about it carefully.

漢字趣味大賽

由紐約數位華語文學習中心主辦，紐約華僑文教服務中心輔導之「紐約地區漢字文化節 ─ 第二屆漢字趣味大賽」，訂於 2010 年 11 月 27 日(星期六)上午 10 時至下午 3 時在紐約華僑文教服務中心舉行，比賽內容有「中文電腦打字識字比賽」、「漢字五子棋比賽」和「漢字認讀比賽」。這項活動挑戰中小學生正體漢字識字能力，鼓勵海外華人子弟持續華語的學習。並藉由趣味比賽型式，強調新世代華語教學的新方法，創造出海外華語教學新的應用模式性。這項活動接受所有中文學校團體或個人報名參加，報名時間自即日起至 11 月 18 日截止，各項比賽示範及出題範圍請瀏覽主辦單位網址（www.ComputerChinese.com），或電洽紐約數位華語文學習中心蔣昌棟先生，電話：917-254-4340。

The Chinese Character Contest coordinated by the OCAC will be held on November 27 (Saturday), from 10 AM to 3 PM, at the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (133-32 41st Road, Flushing, New York). This Saturday (10/30/2010) we won't have access to the main parking lot at the school because of football tailgate. Please use the back parking lot instead.

In addition, there will be decorations in the cafeteria and on stage in the auditorium for the school play. Please make sure that these decorations are not disturbed, and that we leave the rooms the way we find them.

In the general member meeting held on last Saturday (October 16, 9:30-10:30 AM), we reported school finance and budget and introduced administrative staff. We also discussed the potential merger between our school and Edison Chinese School. It was

學校今年開始使用美洲華語，舊教材"全新版華語"可在本週家長大會後領取，作為學生自修用書本。

The school has in stock old textbooks that we were using for the traditional track classes during the past few years. If you are interested, they are available for pick up, while supplies last, at the cafeteria after the general member meeting.

The K1/K2 group is a UCS only group, and winners from this group will not be advanced to the CACA interschool speech contest. Students in the K1/K2 classes who wish to participate the CACA interschool scholastic speech contest can compete in either the CSL1 or the A group intramural contest for selection.

The World Journal covered this year’s Double-Tenth Parade in New York City’s Chinatown. Mr. Jiangming (Johnny) Wu brought our school’s banner to the parade; the banner is clearly visible in the picture filed with the report (please see attached news clip).

華埠慶雙十大遊行旗海飄揚

紐約僑界10 日在華埠慶祝中華民國雙十國慶遊行，新州中文學校參加遊行，場面壯觀。(記者許振輝/攝影)

美東四州僑界10 日下午在華埠舉行慶祝中華民國99 年雙十節盛大遊行，超過50 個團體的千餘僑胞揮舞著美國及中華民國小國旗，沿著華埠勿街一路興高采烈的行進。

行進隊伍由一面巨型的中華民國國旗領隊，紐約華僑學校的學生將巨幅國旗沿途進行旋轉、高舉，場面異常壯觀。遊行隊伍沿途中華民國國旗到處飄揚，一片旗海。更有舞龍舞獅、僑胞高呼口號。

遊行於下午4 時30 分開始，吸引了數千民眾圍觀，場面熱鬧。市警五分局派出逾百警員在現場維持秩序。隊伍由中華公所主席伍權碩及駐紐約台北經濟文化辦事處處長高振權任總領隊。

警車開道，由近20 人手執巨幅中華民國國旗、緊隨其後為高振群、伍權碩及多個僑團代表隊、隨後遊行方隊包括中國國民黨美東支部、華僑學校鼓樂隊、紐約華裔美國退伍軍人會、華僑文教中心、新澤西中文學校協會等眾多團體。紐約榮光聯誼會成員著裝整齊、步伐一致，邊行進邊高呼「中華民國萬歲」的激昂口號。

多個舞龍舞獅團體包括安良工商總會、朱超然、葉永康等武術館也派出醒獅團。溫志明武術館的40 呎長金龍和安良的金龍隊如巨龍出海，引人注目。

遊行路線從勿街98 號開始，沿勿街行經窩扶街(Worth St.)、茂比利街、堅尼路、包厘街、東百老匯、市場街、地威臣街、再轉至包厘街、回到擺也街(Bayard St.)與勿街交口結束。之後在華埠金豐等七家酒樓舉行了慶祝餐會，千餘人出席同慶。
