1. This Saturday (9/24) there is a ‘fire drill’ event in UCS. The fire alarm will sound on 9:40 till 9:50 A.M. Please see the attached school map and find the nearest exit and go outside the building and stay there until it is over (10 minutes).

本週學校有消防演習，請遵守規定至校門外集結，勿逗留於學校建築物之中，謝謝合作。

2. One of our parents who used to be a pastry chef has volunteered to bake some blueberry muffins and banana bread for sale this Saturday (9/24). Profit will be used to support the school. Please come by cafeteria to get some delicious breakfast!

3. Next week (10/1) there will be a parent-teacher conference for all language classes. The schedule is as follows: 老師家長會議時刻表如下:

9:00-9:20 : K1, K2, G6, G7/8, CSL4/6
10:40-11:00: CSL1, CSL3, G4, G9/10

Parents please arrive punctually for the meetings.

4. ANJCS will have a Confucius Memorial Ceremony event on 9/23/12 (Sunday) at Montville High School in Montville, NJ. This is a free event and everyone is welcome to come. We encourage our parents and students to go there and learn the traditional way of celebrating Chinese Teacher’s Day (on 9/28/12)

5. 2012 Double Tenth Flag Raising event will be held on 10/7/12 (Sunday) from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Birchwood Manor in Whippany, NJ. This is a free event and some programs (both outdoors and indoors) will be performed with refreshments and cakes being served after the ceremony. We (UCS) are responsible to distribute the refreshments and cakes to all the guests and need 2 to 3 volunteers to help out for this task. 今年的雙十國慶升旗典禮，將於十月七日(星期天)上午十時至中午十二時在Whippany市的Birchwood Manor舉行。此為免費的活動，典禮之後並有室內外表演節目以及飲料點心和生日蛋糕免費招待，歡迎踴躍參加。本校被分配到的工作是分發點心和生日蛋糕，由前任校長吳江名負責。他亦需要二到三名本校家長及學生(七歲以上不會偷吃蛋糕者)的幫忙(分發點心和蛋糕)。有意者請直接與其聯絡電話及電郵地址如上所示。

6. A Financial Seminar of MetLife will be held on 10/6/12 at 9:45 am. Details will follow. 本校將於十月六日舉辦財務講座。

7. Moon cake ordering – Well Luck company will come to school to accept orders of moon cakes. If ordered more than 10 boxes, the price will have a 10% discount, if more than 25 boxes ordered then the discount becomes 15% and if more than 50 boxes ordered then the discount is 20%. 9. 2012 Double Tenth Celebration Goodwill Mission will have its annual performance on 9/29/12 (Saturday) 6:00 P.M. at Ridge Performing Arts Center (268 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920). Tickets ($20.00 per person) are on sale now. For more information please see the enclosed flyers in Newsletter No.1.

101年雙十國慶文化訪問團公演，將於九月二十九日晚上六點， 在Ridge Performing Arts Center演出(地址是268 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920) 。由方芳， 陸一嬋，陳凱倫，等擔綱演出。票價每人二十元，四歲以下不准入場。詳情請參閱學校通訊一號附錄海報。

10. New Jersey Parent Caucus (NJPC) is offering a FREE five-week Professional Parent Advocacy Training program for parents, grandparents, foster parents, adoptive parents, and other caregivers. Parents and caregivers attending the training are given the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of the systems that serve their families, their rights and responsibilities within those systems, and the advocacy, professional, and collaborative skills needed to successfully negotiate those systems. Parents will become better able to advocate for themselves and their communities, resulting in increased access to appropriate care and treatment for all children. For details, please see attached document.

Some additional announcements:

* The parent-teacher conference next week (9/29) will be an opportunity for teachers to provide a brief overview of the curriculum and teaching approach, and for parents to ask any questions and provide any comments and suggestions to teachers. Classes will be held as usual.

** On the same day (9/29), Vice-Principal Ichi and I will host an orientation meeting/ gathering for all the new parents (parents who have been here for only 1 or 2 years are also considered new parents). Besides the new parents, any other parents who are interested to know more about the school, or those who would like to meet the new parents are also invited. We will do a presentation introducing the structure of UCS and various activities that UCS hosts every year. We will also spend some time getting to know each other and have some snacks. Please make a plan to join us before or after your conference with the teachers from 9.30-10.30 am.

*** Union Chinese School participates in the 'box top for education' fundraiser. Please collect those box tops in many of the products that you have purchased at home and bring them to our school. Karin Wang is the parent-in-charge of this. You can give them to Karin, or to me. We need to submit them before November. So we would appreciate if you can bring them soon. Thank you for your support!
