Hello, everyone! There is only 11 days away from today to our first day of school on 9/10/2011, the official first day of UCS for the school year 2011-2012. Hope all of you have a wonderful and great summer time! Before the first day of school, I will prepare two issues of ‘pre-school’ newsletter (2012 issues -1 and 0) to address some issues and give you a heads up about some activities that are around the corner to be happened. This includes the following things: 4 activities/events, 2 announcements, and 2 advertisements. Here are the details for each item that I just mentioned.
*** Activities & Events ***
1. ANJCS will host the
2. ANJCS also will host the
3. The Moon Festival is approaching (on 9/12/11) and we are receiving ‘moon cake orders’ from all the families. Moon cakes will be delivered to you on 9/10 (our first day of school) at UCS cafeteria. If you are interested to order, please fill out the enclosed order form (the one called ‘UCS Moon cake order form’) and return it (via e-mail) back to me before 9/3/11 (this Saturday. Yu can pay the money on 9/10 by cash or check.
4. UCS new school year registration starts on 9/10 and 9/17. If your kids haven’t registered yet, or if you know anyone (your friends, colleagues, relatives) who is interested in learning Chinese, please have them registered on these two days.
*** Announcements ***
5. The new UCS school calendar for 2011-2012 is attached for your reference. Although Westfield BOE (Board of Education) has not yet approved it, I do not anticipate seeing too many changes will occur. If it does happen (if any changes) I will inform all the families at once and send another revised one. But before that happens please use this one as our current school calendar.
6. We have found a Yo-yo teacher who is willing to teach Chinese Yo-yo for this coming semester. I know there might be some potential students who want to take this cultural class, should there be one that is opened. Now it is time to register this cultural class if you really want to. We need at least 5 students registered in this class in order to open that class. Otherwise, if only 4 or less students registered, it will still be cancelled.
In the meantime, since we can’t get a Chinese music teacher (for teaching erhu) this semester, the traditional Chinese music class will be cancelled (it is a painful decision but we have to do that, no other choice). We need one more student to register the SAT Math class, so those students who are currently enrolled in the Chinese music class can probably transfer to the SAT Math class so that we can open that one. (We currently only have 3 students registered this class, but I will have my son [a 10th grader this year] also register this class on 9/10 so we will have 4 students now. Just one more student registers this class then we can open this useful class to the students.)

7. There will be a (fee) concert hosts by ‘2011 Double Tenth Celebration Goodwill Mission’ at Kean University on 9/24/11 (Saturday) evening at 6:30 P.M. (百年雙十國慶文化 訪問團公演) UCS and CAME (Chinese American Music Ensemble) together get 10 tickets on hand for sale ($20.00 per person). If you are interested please let me know. The goodwill mission is led by the famous television star Mei-Feng Chen (陳美鳳) from Taiwan. Please don’t miss it if you are interested in attending this event. You can also go to http://www.nnjca.org to see more information about this event.
On Sunday 9/25/11 night in NYU, New York, there will be another concert celebration for the 100th national birthday of R.O.C. Programs include a ‘100 people chorus’ (百人大合唱), instrument solo (professional level), Chinese opera, folk dance and others. If you are interested in attending please let me know and I can try to get the tickets for you. Or you can go to NYU’s official website to see more information. For students from NYU, you can also get a 15% discount (so my daughter can get it now) if purchase the tickets from the NYU box office. You need to show your NYU ID card when purchasing, though.
*** Special announcement – Help Needed ***
We need a volunteer (parents) to be the IT person for UCS this semester, due to our previous IT person, Yung-Chen Chen has no desire to stay one more term. He works in D.C. area now and so holding such a position on hand is such a big burden for him. I sincerely thank him for his contribution to UCS for the past year. And I hope that there will be another person who can volunteer to take this important job. Many parents in UCS community have very sound background in computer science, or even work in related fields (in IT fields). I myself have been in this position for two years before, but I am not an IT professional. So as long as you are willing to help (and learn some database) I believe you can make it. Besides, we have many people that have taken this position can assist you, too. Please contact me directly if you are willing to help. Thanks.
