20120526 - issue 30a

We do not have school this week due to the Memorial Day long weekend. However, there are many things happening during the past weekend and many activities awaiting us after the Memorial Day, so I am giving you one more 'Newsletter' for more communications about these events and activities.

1. Registration -- was held on 5/5 and 5/12. Now there are 2 cultural classes cancelled -- Chinese calligraphy and Chinese yo-yo, due to lack of students enrolled (both <2 people). Folk dance, Indian dance, and basketball have at least 5 people enrolled, so they are safe for next year to be opened. The rest (drawing, photography, fishing, guitar, and paper cutting) have either 3 or 4 people enrolled and so they will be kept to next year for registration again. If at the end of the second week, still less than 5 people enrolled, then that class will also be cancelled. For Indian dance class, we are open to adults for registration, too. If at least 5 people enrolled, then we will have an independent class for adults alone. Otherwise, if 1 to 4 adults enrolled, they will join the Indian class for children to become a larger class (and no adult class alone will be opened).
2. Appreciation will be given to the following people who helped the pre-registration process: Jessica Liu, Lily Zhang-Adams, Kathy O'Neill, Kavin Wang, Kamchoi Choi, Yu-Chin Li, Lin-Lin Shiao, Ssuyu Lin, and Charlene Tsai. Thank you for your dedication, time, and efforts to conduct the registration process very smoothly.

3. The ANJCS Field Day sports contests event on Saturday 5/19 -- We (UCS) had 11 students attending the sport competition and won first 3 places in 7 different items, including:
(1) Mid-age girl 100m 1st place -- Grace Wu (吳孟于),
(2) Mid-age girl 100m 100m 2nd place -- Debroah Chu, (朱逸然),
(3) Mid-age boy 100m 1st place -- Eric Chang (張耀中),
(4) Mid-age boy 100m 3rd place -- Humphrey Huang (黃啟榮),
(5) Mid-age girl 4x100m 3rd place -- Grace Wu (吳孟于), Debroah Chu (朱逸然), Amanda Chang (張楹), Amy Liu (劉涵),
(6) Upper-age girl 4x100m 3rd place -- Same 4 people as in (5),
(7) Upper-age boy 4x100m 3rd place -- Shawn Wu (吳成翔), Richard Chu (朱一凡), Bryan Chou (周瑞鵬), Jason Wang (王傑聖).
We have 10 people won at least one award among11 attendants (over 90% winning rate). What an amazing achievement for them! Congratulations to all of them. Their rewards in UCS are: all 11 contestants are free to join the BBQ event (as long as they register for it).

4. The CACA Fun Day event on 5/20 -- We won the third place for tug of war competition and $300.00 cash award for UCS. For those who attended the tug of war competition your awards in UCS are: attending the 'teacher appreciation lunch' for free (you must register for it, though) (sorry, this can't transfer to your spouse if you are already 'free' due to volunteering or as staff/teacher in UCS).

5. The BBQ event on 6/2 afternoon from 12:00 to 4:00 P.M. -- We have 49 people registered now (not counting some of the 'free' members that will join after this announcement for the tug of war contestants) so we will definitely do it as planned. I will extend the registration to next Tuesday (5/29) at 9:00 P.M. Anyone interested in joining this event please sign the enclosed BBQ registration form and return to me (via e-mail). Your money can be paid on 6/2 morning at school. I won't go to school on that morning due to I will go to Tamaques Park to occupy the BBQ shelter and table around 9:00 A.M. You might give the money to Lily Chen Hafteck, our new principal.

6. The Teacher appreciation luncheon event on 6/9 afternoon from 12:00 to 4:00 P.M. at China Buffet in South Plainfield -- We are still accepting registration for this event, please sign the enclosed form (you may choose either English or Chinese form) and return to me (via e-mail) or hand in person to either Lorraine or Lily Chen on 6/2 at school. For those people who won the 3rd place of tug of war competition, I encourage you and your family to attend (you can save $10.00 for this event if you are not volunteers/teachers/staffs). The deadline for this luncheon is set on 6/6/12 (Wednesday) at 9:00 P.M. (can send e-mail to me after this Saturday if you want to attend).

7. The words recognition games will be held on 6/2 at cafeteria. There will be no cultural class on that day. Also, pizza will be served for all the attendants and teachers/volunteers who played the game (sorry, not for parents).

8. The graduation ceremony will be held on 6/9 at auditorium, no class (language or cultural) will be held on that day. The teacher appreciation luncheon will be held after the graduation ceremony. Hope to see most of you attending both events.

ps. By the way, the CACA summer camp is still accepting registrations for your kids. If interested please contact Lily Chen (her e-mail is in cc list above) directly.
