***Announcements *** 1. This Saturday (9/29) there will be a parent-teacher conference for all language classes. The parent-teacher conference next week will be an opportunity for teachers to provide a brief overview of the curriculum and teaching approach, and for parents to ask any questions and provide any comments and suggestions to teachers. Classes will be held as usual.
本週六將舉行老師家長會議，此會議是一個良好的機會，讓學生家長與老師溝通。舉凡課程簡介，教學方法，或是家長們的任何問題或是建議，都可在此會議上提出及交流，上課則照常舉行。

2. This Saturday (9/29) Vice-Principal Ichi and Principal Lily will host an orientation meeting/ gathering for all the new parents (parents who have been here for only 1 or 2 years are also considered new parents). Besides the new parents, any other parents who are interested to know more about the school, or those who would like to meet the new parents are also invited. We will do a presentation introducing the structure of UCS and various activities that UCS hosts every year. We will also spend some time getting to know each other and have some snacks. Please make a plan to join us before or after your conference with the teachers from 9.30-10.30 am.
本週六副校長陳逸琦及校長陳莉莉，將會為所有新生家長們(在聯合中文學校時間不超過二年者都算新生家長) ，做學校的簡報。除了新生家長之外，其他任何家長想對學校多所了解者，亦都歡迎參加。我們將在簡報中，介紹學校的組織及全年的各種不同活動，並利用一些時間，彼此認識及享受一些點心。請於九點半至十點半老師家長會議以外的時間，加入我們的行列。謝謝!
3. This Saturday (9/29), the email list of all the UCS families will be posted at the notice area (outside the cafeteria). All parents are requested to verify their email addresses and to make corrections if necessary.
本週六本校學生家長們的電子郵件信箱，將會公佈於大餐廳外面的牆壁上。請所有學校的成員(家長，老師，職員，義工，及成人文化課學員)前往確認一下，如有錯誤之處，請及時更正謝謝合作。
4. The annual UCS Speech Contest is coming up soon. The first round will be held on 10/27 in the classroom. The final will take place on 11/17 in the auditorium. The winners of the final will then compete with students from other Chinese schools at the CACA Speech Contest in December (date to be announced later). Please see attachment for the requirements and topics of the contest.
一年一度的聯合中文學校演講比賽, 第一回合的初賽, 將於十月二十七日, 於各班級舉行. 決賽將於十二月十七日, 於大禮堂舉行. 決賽各級優勝學生, 將代表本校參加於十二月中(日期未定)的, 中美文化協會所舉辦的五校演講比賽. 請參閱附錄所示的, 各級比賽的要求及題目.
5. Union Chinese School participates in the 'box top for education' fundraiser. Please collect those box tops in many of the products that you have purchased at home and bring them to our school. They should be given to Karin Wang, our fund-raising coordinator and one of our former principals. We need to submit them before November. So we would appreciate if you can bring them soon. Thank you for your support!
本校有加入Box top的教育基金募款活動。請家長們收集日常生活用品中的Box top標籤，並交給前任校長劉國玲女士(十一月之前) ，謝謝您的支持與合作。
6. A Financial Seminar of MetLife will be held on 10/6/12 at 9:45 am. at cafeteria, regarding life insurance and retirement plan. You are invited to come and to participate this seminar.
十月六日九點四十五分, 在本校大餐廳, 將舉行第二次財務講座. 主題是人壽保險及退休金研討 會 (各類人壽保險 ，財務管理 ，退休金計畫).由大都會保險公司的專員主持, 敬請參加.
*** Activities & Events ***
7. There will be a free concert held on 10/6/12 (Saturday) night from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. by Chinese American Music Ensemble (CAME) at Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth, NJ. This is part of the 'Arts in the Gardens' event which is an annual program sponsored by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs during the Columbus Day weekend (10/6 to 10/8). Their programs include chorus, Chinese folk dance, yang-qing solo, piano solo and duet, and Chinese yo-yo. Everybody is welcome to join this event and watch the free concert and performance by CAME and Celadon Youth.
中美合唱團將於十月六日晚上六點半, 在新州伊麗莎白市的Jersey Gardens Mall舉行一場免費的音樂會.此一節目為"花園州藝術節"活動的一部份,主辦單位為聯合郡文化及遺產辦公室,於每年的哥倫布日長週末(十月六日至八日)舉行.他們所準備的節目包括合唱,中國民族舞蹈,楊琴獨奏,鋼琴獨奏/二重奏,以及扯鈴等,歡迎闔家欣賞.
8. 2012 Double Tenth Flag Raising event will be held on 10/7/12 (Sunday) from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Birchwood Manor in Whippany, NJ. This is a free event and some programs (both outdoors and indoors) will be performed with refreshments and cakes being served after the ceremony. We (UCS) are responsible to distribute the refreshments and cakes to all the guests and need 2 to 3 volunteers to help out for this task. The interested people (volunteers) can contact Johnny Wu (908-456-2870, or e-mail: johnnywu1723@yahoo.com) for more details. A poster is included for your reference.
今年的雙十國慶升旗典禮，將於十月七日(星期天)上午十時至中午十二時在Whippany市的Birchwood Manor舉行。此為免費的活動，典禮之後並有室內外表演節目以及飲料點心和生日蛋糕免費招待，歡迎踴躍參加。本校被分配到的工作是分發點心和生日蛋糕，由前任校長吳江名負責。他亦需要二到三名本校家長及學生(七歲以上不會偷吃蛋糕者)的幫忙(分發點心和蛋糕)。有意者請直接與其聯絡電話及電郵地址如上所示。詳情請參閱附錄的海報。

9. New Jersey Parent Caucus (NJPC) is offering a FREE five-week Professional Parent Advocacy Training program for parents, grandparents, foster parents, adoptive parents, and other caregivers. For details, please see attached document in Newsletter No.3.
