1. The first round of the UCS annual Speech Contest will be held this Saturday 10/27 in the classroom. Half of the participants from each group will be selected for the final contest which will take place on 11/17 in the auditorium. Please see attachment for the requirements and topics of the contest.
Group A, B, CSL 1 and CSL 2 contestants should be in the classroom and start drawing their number at 9 a.m. so that the contest can start at 9:10 a.m. punctually.
Group C, D and CSL 3 contestants should be in the classroom and start drawing their number at 9:50 a.m., so that the contest can start at 10.00 a.m. punctually.
一年一度的聯合中文學校演講比賽, 第一回合的初賽, 將於本週六(十月二十七日), 於各班級舉行.決賽將於十一月十七日, 於大禮堂舉行. 決賽各級優勝學生, 將代表本校參加於十二月十五日的 中美文化協會所舉辦的五校演講比賽. 請參閱附錄所示的, 各級比賽的要求及題目.

2. Union Chinese School participates in the 'box top for education' fundraiser. Please collect those box tops in many of the products that you have purchased at home and bring them to our school. They should be given to Karin Wang, our fund-raising coordinator and one of our former principals. We need to submit them before November. So we would appreciate if you can bring them soon. Thank you for your support!
本校有加入Box top的教育基金募款活動。請家長們收集日常生活用品中的Box top標籤，並交給前任校長劉國玲女士(十一月之前) ，謝謝您的支持與合作。
3. This Saturday 10/27, there will be a snack sale in the cafeteria to raise fund for the school. Children can purchase a pack of snack and a box of juice for $1.25.
本週六(10/27)在學校大餐廳，將舉辦點心義賣，為學校籌款。每包點心(含果汁)$1.25元，歡迎購買。
4. UCS is a school run by parents. Therefore, we need parents’ support in providing volunteer service in various school administrative tasks. Each family of UCS has been assigned with three tasks, unless a donation of $100 has been made at the time of registration to waive the volunteer service. Each task has a group of committee members who will work together under the direction of a committee leader. Your committee leaders will be contacting you soon (if not already done) regarding your assignments. Please cooperate and offer your help to the school:

5. We are organizing a collection of unused toys for coupon day this Saturday. Many of us have toys from birthday parties and holidays that have not been opened. We can offer these toys during coupon day. Please note that these toys must be NEW and unwrapped. NO stuffed animals unless they are brand new.

6. Cirque Chinois, the National Circus of the People’s Republic of China from Beijing is coming to Union, NJ ! They will perform a grand circus spectacular on Saturday 11/3 at 7.30 pm at Wilkins Theatre, Kean University. Please see www.keanstage.com for more information. They have a promotion of ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’ now. It is a great family show. Get your tickets soon!

7. There will be a talk on family education and university preparation on 11/3 at UCS by the authors of “The Harvard Sisters – quality family education”. The talk will be conducted in Chinese. Please see attached document in Newsletter No. 7 for details.

8. ANJCS will host a Chinese Culture Multimedia Presentation Contest to promote the research and understanding of the Chinese characters and culture. All New Jersey high school students of different racial backgrounds are welcome to enter. The deadline is 12/31/2012. Please refer to the attached rules and registration form in Newsletter No. 7.
