1. Chinese New Year is coming soon! According to the Chinese Lunar Calendar, the New Year Day will be February 10, when we will start the Year of Snake. Chinese New Year is the most important festival of the Chinese culture. The annual Chinese New Year celebration is also our school’s most important event of the year. Here, I invite all families of UCS to participate and celebrate with us. On February 9, we will have a performance in the afternoon. It will be followed by a gala dinner party. THE PARTICIPATION OF EVERY FAMILY OF OUR SCHOOL IS VERY IMPORTANT to make this event a success. Please bring your families and friends to learn and experience our beautiful Chinese culture! Only with your support that it can become a happy and fun event! PLEASE JOIN US! Hope to see ALL OF YOU there!! A poster of the event is attached.

新年快到了! 今年的大年初一是二月十日，在此邀請大家擁躍參加本校於二月九日舉行的新年晚會，一起慶祝蛇年的開始。希望學校每个家庭都能熱烈支持！詳情請參閱海報。

2. We also NEED A LOT OF HELP in addition to the organizing committee members. Any help that you can offer will be great (e.g. decorations, set-up for the show and dinner party, managing the raffle, hosting games, organizing and managing the performances, etc.). Many parents have already been volunteering their time and efforts in making our New Year Celebration a success. We thank them sincerely. However, we still need more help. If you can contribute on February 2 or February 9, or on both days, please contact Ming Liu, Chair of our Chinese New Year Party Organizing Committee， at 908-8894115

3. The 2013 Chinese New Year Gala Dinner Party will be held on February 9th right after the celebration show. We will have Asian Delights Restaurant (Bernardsville, NJ) to cater for us. The menu: California Sushi Rolls, Si Chuan Fish Fillets, Crispy Duck, Sesame Shredded Beef, Fried Pork Chops, Sauté Vegetables, Rice Noodle, Steamed Rice, Almond Cookies & Fortune Cookies, Fruit & Soft Drinks. We welcome every member and families’ participation. To reserve your seat, please contact Ming Liu at 9089-889-4115. $15 for individual seat; $75 for a table of 6. Pizza will also be provided at $2 for each slice. You can also buy tickets at the cafeteria. Please contact Lily Adams jialingadams@yahoo.com if you wish to join with other members to make a table. Deadline: Feb. 2!

4. If you wish to sing karaoke at the Chinese New Year party, you must register with Evelyn Chu at evelynchumd@gmail.com no later than Feb. 2.

5. We are asking for donation of gifts for the raffle at the Chinese New Year party. Please kindly wrap them (if possible) and provide the estimated cost of the gifts for the purpose of organization of the prizes based on their value at raffle drawing. We appreciate all gifts that are new, unused, of at least $10 value. Yuwen Peng will be collecting the gifts at the cafeteria on 1/26 and 2/2. If they are too big or heavy to carry to school, please send it to her house at 2299 Stocker Lane, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.

6. The Nai-Ni Chen dance company will perform two shows in NJPAC to celebrate the Chinese New Year: 2/9 (Sat) and 2/10 (Sun) at 2 pm. On Sunday, there will be a banquet gala at 4.30pm. Ticket prices are $25 for adult and $13 for children (performance only); $125 for adult and $50 for children (performance and banquet). Please call 1-800-650-0246.

7. CAME (Chinese American Music Ensemble, 中美合唱團) has two free concerts: (1) 2/3/13 (Sunday) at Scotch Plains Library from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. The library will open at 1:00 P.M. (2) 2/24/13 (Sunday) at Westfield Senior Citizens Housing from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. All are welcome!

中美合唱團二月份將有兩場免費的音樂會: (1) 二月三日下午二至三點在Scotch Plains的圖書館, 圖書館下午一點鐘開門, (2) 二月二十四日下午二至三點在西野市老人院, 歡迎闔第光臨。

8. On 2/16/13 (Saturday), NNJCS (Northern New Jersey Chinese Association) has a New Year party (gala) to be held at Birchwood Manor in Whippany, NJ from 6:00 to 11:30 P.M. This is a fee event and the price for the gala ticket is $70.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased from Johnny Wu (bmw12571@yahoo.com).

北新美華聯誼會，將于二月十六日晚六點至十一點半，在Whippany市的Birchwood Manor，舉行新年餐舞會。餐券每人七十元。有意者可向吳江名購買。(bmw12571@yahoo.com).

9. On 2/17/13 (Sunday), Rutgers Chinese Students and Scholars Association (RCSSA) will have their new year gala performance at Rutgers University Nicholas Music Center at 7:00 P.M. The ticket price is very cheap: $5.00 for students, $10.00 for non-students and $30.00 for VIP tickets. Tickets can be purchased from Johnny Wu (bmw12571@yahoo.com).
